- I received my B.A. in History with a Classics minor from FSU. I LOVE history. If I could meet anyone from the past it would be Eleanor of Aquitaine. She was a Queen of France and then a Queen of England. She went on the Second Crusade at the age of 19 and was the mother of Richard the Lionheart and King John. What a woman!
- After I received my B.A. I continued on and received my Master's in Library and Information Science with a focus on academic libraries. I worked in academia for 14 years and then moved to an elementary library when my kids were small. I now want to move back to my first love: history. In Spring 2015, I'll receive my certification in 7-12 History from TWU (Texas Woman's University).
- I didn't start college until I was 22. I was a hairdresser for a few years and then realized that it wasn't my life-long dream. I attended community college for two years before heading off to university. I then decided to get a Master's. It's never too late to go back to school! Getting a Master's was one of the best things I've ever done and it changed my life.
- I lived in Sharjah and Dubai in the UAE for 14 years and it was a wonderful experience. I worked with local Emirati girls at the university level for 3 years and learned a lot about females in the Emirati culture. After that, I became the Director of Library Services at a University for four years. I then worked 7 years as an elementary librarian. The first 12 years in the UAE were great; the last two years I finally decided 120F wasn't for me anymore! And then I moved to Texas......
- Both of my sons were born in the UAE and are American citizens because both of us are American. When I went to the consulate for their paperwork, I asked if either would be eligible to become President of the United States since they were born American citizens but in a foreign country. I was told that because no one in this situation has ever tried before, there is no precedent, therefore, no one is sure. Hmmm, I wonder if one of my kids should try?!
- I received my cosmetology license while a teenager and did hair for a few years. I really wanted to be a make-up artist, but Bobbi Brown's school was too expensive at the time!
- Fun fact: Johnny Depp went to my high school and came to my house for a pool party. I didn't know him, but my sister did.
- I've been lucky enough to travel around the world. I've been to England, Scotland, France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Austria, Germany, Italy, Czech Republic, Oman, UAE, India, Thailand, Guam, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Haiti and the Bahamas. I have different favorites for different reasons: Rome for its history, Thailand for its beauty and food, Austria for its music, Scotland for its people. Where next? I hope Ireland and back to Italy!
- Even though my sister and I are four years apart, evidently we look and sound very similar. Although she has brown hair and mine is blond, people can still tell we're sisters. I met a woman in Texas who said I reminded her of a friend in another state and when she said the name - it was my sister!
- We have a shelter dog named Bonnie. She's a mix of Collie, Spaniel and Australian Shepard. She is the fastest dog I've ever seen! She's also the best dog I've ever had and think she's amazing. We all love her.
- Favorite things to do are: reading (mainly historical fiction and fantasy, but cereal boxes work too), having dinner parties and playing games with family and friends.
This is Dolly. She was found in a dumpster in Dubai, UAE and has been a part of the family ever since.
